CHAPTER 2: INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The installer will force your computer to restart when installation is finished, so before you begin installation, you should save your work and quit all currently open applications. Also, you must install OMS before running Vision -- install OMS from its own disk now if you haven't done so already. Before installing, you MUST disable virus protection and all system extensions. The quickest way to do this is to restart your computer while holding down the Shift key. NOTE TO VISION OWNERS: If you already have Vision installed at the top level of your hard disk in a folder named "Vision ƒ", you might want to rename the folder. The demo installer will put the demo version of the program in that same folder, and while this is not problematic, it might be confusing. You can use the Easy Install feature of the Vision Installer for a quick, unprompted installation. However, this may install files that you don't need, and you don't get to pick where the Vision folder is created. If you need more control over the installation process, skip ahead to the “Custom Installation” section of this file.   Easy Install: • Double-click the Install Vision Demo icon on Disk 1. • Click Easy Install. • Insert disks as prompted. • Your computer will be restarted when the installation is complete. Custom Install: The installation consists of several packages; the “Easy Install” option will install all packages on the startup volume. Some packages (Vision keyboard layout, Sonata fonts) MUST be installed on the startup volume, but you can install the demo itself on some other volume. Here's how: • Double-click the Install Vision Demo icon on Disk 1. • Click Customize instead of Easy Install. • Switch Disk to your preferred disk • Select the Vision Demo package. • Click Install to install Vision on that disk. • Click Continue to continue the installation process. • Select the keyboard layout and appropriate font for your system from the list of packages. • Switch Disk back to the startup volume. • Click Install. The installation completes and the system prompts you to restart. When your machine is finished restarting, the Vision Demo will be in a folder called "Vision ƒ" on the top level of your hard disk. Open the folder and double click the "Vision Demo" icon to start the application. If you are new to Vision, follow the tutorial instructions in the next chapter of this on-line manual. The most important thing to remember is that you can get on-screen help on any Vision feature, at any time. 1. Hold down the Command, Option and Shift keys. 2. Click on the area of the screen that you have a question about. You can also choose any menu command. 3. A window opens with information about the feature you selected. If you clicked an on-screen item, the window disappears when you release the mouse button. If you chose a menu command, the window disappears when you click the mouse.
